چکیده

X A N T H I N E dehydrogenase (XDH) o€ Drosophila melamgaster is controlled by at least three loci. Electrophoretic evidence (YEN and GLASSMAN 1965) indicates that r y (rosy eye color, 3-52.4), a mutant that lacks XDH (GLASSMAN and MITCHELL 1959), is the structural gene for this enzyme. Mutants of the other two loci, ma-1 (maroon-like eye color, 1-64?) and lxd (low xanthine dehydrogenase, 3-33?), have 0 and 25% normal XDH activity, respectively (GLASSMAN and MITCHELL 1959; KELLER and GLASSMAN 1964), and are also deficient in pyridoxal oxidase (FORREST, HANLY and LAGOWSKI 1961 ; GLASSMAN et al., 1964), and aldehyde oxidase (COURTRIGHT 1967). Table 3, below, shows the distribution of the enzyme activities in the various mutants. Other properties of this enzyme system have been summarized in a review by GLASSMAN (1965). By assaying many strains, a new mutant lpo (low pyridoxal oxidase) has been found which affects only pyridoxal oxidase and may be a structural gene for pyridoxal oxidase. Some of these data have appeared elsewhere in preliminary form ( GLASSMAN et al. 1968).

Aconitase and Developmental EndPointsasEarly IndicatorsofCellularToxicity Induced by Xenobiotics in Drosophila Melanogaster

Background: In this study, the toxicity of the different xenobiotics was tested on the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster model system.  Methods: Fly larvae were raised on food supplemented with xenobioticsat different concentrations (sodium nitroprusside (0.1-1.5 mM), S-nitrosoglutathione (0.5-4 mM), and potassium ferrocyanide (1 mM)). Emergence of flies, food intake by larvae, and pupation h...

Concentration dependent effect of morphine, aspirin, capsaicin and chili pepper hydro alcoholic extract on thermal and chemical pain model in fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)

Introduction: Pain research using animal models is related to ethical concerns, so invertebrates and insects have been recommended by researchers. In the present study, the nociceptive and antinociceptive effects of capsaicin, aspirin, morphine and chili extract were examined using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as an alternative for rodent pain model. Methods: Stage 3 of larvae and ad...

The four aldehyde oxidases of Drosophila melanogaster have different gene expression patterns and enzyme substrate specificities.

In the genome of Drosophila melanogaster, four genes coding for aldehyde oxidases (AOX1-4) were identified on chromosome 3. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the AOX gene cluster evolved via independent duplication events in the vertebrate and invertebrate lineages. The functional role and the substrate specificity of the distinct Drosophila AOX enzymes is unknown. Two loss-of-function mutant a...

Toxicological Evaluation of a New Lepidopteran Insecticide, Flubendiamide, in Non-Target Drosophila melanogaster Meigen (Diptera: Drosophilidae)

Background: Flubendiamide, comparatively a new pesticide designed to eradicate lepidopteran insect pests is known to have low risk to birds, mammals, fish, algae, honey bees, non-target arthropods, earthworms, soil macro- and micro-organisms, non-target plants as well as sewage treatment organisms; however, the risk assessment for aquatic invertebrates from metabolite could not be finalized wit...

A Nutritional Conditional Lethal Mutant Due to Pyridoxine 5′-Phosphate Oxidase Deficiency in Drosophila melanogaster

The concept of auxotrophic complementation has been proposed as an approach to identify genes in essential metabolic pathways in Drosophila melanogaster. However, it has achieved limited success to date, possibly due to the low probability of finding mutations fit with the chemically defined profile. Instead of using the chemically defined culture media lacking specific nutrients, we used bare ...
